Numerical Algebra,
Control and Optimization (NACO) is an international journal devoted to
publishing peer-refereed high quality original papers in the interplay between
numerical linear algebra, control and optimization. NACO is now organizing a special issue dedicated to
memory of Professor Wenyu Sun.
Professor Sun was one of the managing editors
of NACO until just before his passing away.
His research areas were computational mathematics and
nonlinear optimization and he was
a leader in the discipline of
computational mathematics in the School of Mathematical Sciences, Nanjing
Normal University. He had authored
or co-authored over 100
papers published in
various journals including SIAM
Journal on Optimization，SIAM
Journal on Imaging Sciences and NACO. Professor Sun had also co-authored four books.
The book, titled “Introduction to Generalized Inverses of Matrices” (Jiangsu
Science and Technology Press, 1990, with Professor Xuchu He) is one of the
earliest monographs on generalized inverse theory and calculations
in China. It won the second prize of excellent science and technology books in
East China. His another book, titled “Optimization Theory and Methods” (Science
Press, 1997, with
Professor Yaxiang Yuan) presents systematically theory and algorithms for unconstrained,
constrained and nonsmooth optimization problems, and there are many new
research results being included in this monograph.
Sadly,
Professor Sun lost his battle with cancer in October 2019. We are editing a special issue
for NACO in memory of Professor Wenyu Sun for his contributions in
optimization. This special
issue welcome submissions within the scope of NACO from all those who knew
Wenyu, particularly his formal PhD students and postdoctoral fellows, friends
and colleagues. Before submission, authors
should carefully read the journal’s “Instructions for Authors”. The review process will follow the
journal’s practice. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their
complete manuscripts to naco@njnu.edu.cn, according to the following timetable.
